Giants Increasing 2011 Payroll

The Giants have committed to increase last years $100MM payroll to somewhere in the neighborhood of $120MM, reports Andy Baggarly on his blog.

The Giants are still in need of a backup SS, and have arbitration with Jonathan Sanchez, Cody Ross, Andres Torres, Javier Lopez, Santiago Casilla and Ramon Ramirez (all of whom are in line for a raise) to factor into the payroll, so a major acquisition still seems unlikely.

I really think that Brendan Ryan would make a nice SS for the Giants. He would be another late inning defensive sub who can play all over the diamond and the Cardinals have been shopping him His career UZR is over 23, and while his hitting leaves much to be desired, he would be a cost effective backup.
